What Our Counsellors and Trainees Say About Us

Trainee Counsellor

"I was lucky to find the Hut and for Hut (Jess) to choose me. To find an agency that offers low cost and open ended therapy for children and adults was my dream placement. It has been an amazing experience. From the diverse range of clients, to the supervision and supportive peer group. I have gained so much more as a therapist than just my clinical hours. and could not ask for a more supportive environment to start my journey as a therapist."

Trainee Counsellor

"My placement with the Wellbeing Therapy Hut has been nothing short of incredible. An immensely supportive team. Supervision that has improved my practice so much and clients who are engaged with a wide variety of presentations. I would wholeheartedly recommend The Wellbeing Therapy Hut as a life-changing placement experience."

Trainee Counsellor

"I chose TWTH because I was looking for an agency that would be supportive to me as a trainee. I am pleased to say this has indeed been the case. I have been welcomed and well-supported by everyone. I am glad to have chosen TWTH for my placement, and I'm looking forward to the journey ahead."

Trainee Counsellor

"I feel comfortable saying this now but seeing my first clients as a new student placement was a terrifying experience.

A year spent with the Hut has changed me in so many ways and I wouldn't have got through it without them. They helped me change that terrifying experience into an incredibly positive one. The fear has never gone, not entirely (and now I wouldn't want it gone completely! ) but looking back I wouldn't have wanted to do my placement anywhere else.

I would argue that getting the right placement has been 90% of my counselling education. Your learning accelerates the moment you have real clients - the theory actually makes sense the moment you see it have real world application. Most of it will fall by the wayside as you become the therapist you want to become, when you finally meet the MOST important person (the client) and you work together to see what works for THEM. Having the safe hands of the Hut has kept me on track, encouraged me, prodded me to be better, reminded me what's actually important, comforted me when things have been difficult...I could go on.

From Gemma finding me the perfect clients and helping me in SO many ways, to Rebecca helping me through my many (many) stupid admin/technical questions, to David's infinite patience with 'herding cats' (us placement students are the cats!) his frequent coaching and impromptu counselling - right up to me having the astounding good fortune of having Jess as my supervisor. Having 'the boss' as my supervisor has given me so much personally, including an insight into the ethos behind what they're trying to achieve at the Hut. They are genuinely trying to make counselling for everyone - and not just in a fluffy, sloganistic kind of way. There is no single, 'perfect' way to meet clients and build that all important relationship - you will make mistakes, you will never stop learning - and Jess has taught me to embrace all of it. Thank you, to everyone at the Hut, for turning something terrifying into something wonderfully positive."
